During the lifetime of the 356, Porsche would go from producing tiny numbers of hand built cars in the small town of Gmünd, Austria to large scale production in Stuttgart. In the ensuing years, the 356 would allow Porsche to cement itself as Europe’s preeminent sports car manufacturer. Viitally, it was the car that would capture the imagination of that all important post war market; America.
The evolution of the 356 culminated in the 356C which saw improved and more ‘civilised’ interiors and importantly disc brakes. Smaller improvements, but nonetheless important on the 356C included a stronger stabilising rod, better steering and gearbox synchronisation
This particular ‘matching numbers’ car in Signal Red (Porsche Colour code 6407) was first registered on the 1st of January 1964 in California where it spent the majority of its life. Exported to Spain on the 17th of August 2006 it underwent a full restoration, including a meticulous respray and re-chroming work. It went on to be enjoyed by its current owner for many years, taking part in classic car events and rallies such as the Chopard Volta Catalunya.
In 2018 it received over €10,000 of comprehensive engine refurbishment and enhancement on the still matching numbers 616/15 engine. This work boosted displacement to 1760cc to add just a little bit more oomph and make the already accomplished and popular car even more engaging to drive. Receipts of this work are available upon request.
In excellent condition, this 356C provides an opportunity for Porsche enthusiasts and indeed, classic car lovers of all marques to drive and enjoy a vehicle that, as the immediate predecessor to the first ever 911, was instrumental in developing the Porsche brand and reputation around the world.
Located in Barcelona, Spain and available for export worldwide.
Independent inspections can be arranged and carried out for potential buyers upon request. Viewings are also most welcome.
