If you love cars and more to the point, love Range Rovers, you won’t have to scroll far online nowadays to be hit by just how desirable the P38 has become. Far from being ubiquitous however, they are tucked away in elegant mood boards, or, are driven by the ludicrously fashionable and indeed, many celebrities. 

 

It’s fair to say that after three decades following their release, they are having quite the renaissance. And it simply must be stressed just how difficult it is to find great examples today. Not sky high mileage, not suffering from corrosion, not sun damaged and not very tired inside or suffering from electrical gremlins, which is often the sign of lack of use or lack of maintenance and investment.

Equally accomplished as a cosseting and comfortable daily driver, or, as that perfect late 90’s accessory seen outside a picture perfect holiday home. 

 

HAC USA is delighted to offer not one, but two late model Thor engined 4.6 V8’s.

 

Both of which benefit from the Bosch injection system which replaced the Lucas technology seen on GEMs models. This upgrade brought improved fuel economy, smoother performance and greater reliability. The technology itself was derived from the E38 7 Series BMW as changes were gradually made to the P38 following BMW’s acquisition of Land Rover.

 

This example, a 2000 model year 4.6 V8 in rare HSK specification, is finished in Java Black and has just 73,000 miles

 

We acquired this example from Dallas and it has spent most of its life in Texas. An excellent environment for avoiding rust which helps to explain the excellent condition of the undercarriage.

 

Having been garaged regularly, the paint is also in great condition and all original. 

 

The interior is extremely clean and well preserved. The seats are in excellent condition as is the carpeting, dash, door panels and even the headliner is original which is now quite unusual, reaffirming the preservation of this example. 

 

Throughout its previous ownership here in Texas it shows that it had a multi point inspection done at just over 50,000 miles at Land Rover of Houston. This inspection is on file.

 

Other invoices show the regular required maintenance throughout the years, and beyond normal servicing that key components have been replaced as required. For example, a new alternator at 40,000 miles replaced by Land Rover main dealers.

 

It has a very detailed Carfax that shows all the inspections passed favourably as well as documenting the service intervals.

The Carfax also notes that it’s accident free and confirms that the mileage is accurate 

 

The engine runs smoothly. The transmission changes effortlessly, and the AC is ice cold. 

The sunroof works and doesn’t leak. 

 

We have conducted an engine oil and filter change and replaced the brake accumulator.

 

It comes fitted with HP Dueler Sport tyres in the recommended factory size and includes its original manuals, 2 sets of keys and the all important clean Texas title. 

 

This is a very striking example with low mileage, very high specification and in excellent condition. It will make a great collector’s car or indeed a characterful daily driver .

 

Whatever the use proposition, the P38 is without doubt, a collectable modern classic.
